Commandments

from Where Do We Go From Here? by Amahla

about

Commandments is about needing something to believe in. When we fall in love we give ourselves over to a feeling so overwhelming and complex, we know when it happens but can't define it. I wanted to explore the ideas of romantic and religious devotion, giving yourself to something you will never truly understand.

lyrics

Love in itself is a ritual
That I won’t assume will wane Some people live for the aching Emotions that I can’t explain
Some choose to wait for the right time Bound by a buoyant view
Standing in strong opposition
As soon as I felt it I knew

The little words you say they help me But really I, I should have known When I’m left to my devices
In your arms where I belong

By your side
I’ll fight for romance
But I’m at war
With my commandments
In time you will find
That I will confess
But I’m at war
With my commandments

One of these days it will hit me Space is powerful thing
But to no avail, establish a need And slowly I start to concede, lord
If I were to fall to devotion
I’ll fall cuz it’s what I need Searching for something to believe

There are dangerous scenes that pull me down and fill my head
It’s the push and pull that I reconcile What would life be like if I had left it all unsaid?
I wanna find peace of mind

By your side
I’ll fight for romance
But I’m at war
With my commandments
In time you will find
That I will confess
But I’m at war
With my commandments

Time, Romance, War, Commandments

By your side
I’ll fight for romance
But I’m at war
With my commandments
In time you will find
That I will confess
But I’m at war
With my commandments
